The 13th International Film Festival of Kerala in association with FIPRESCI (the International Federation of Film Critics) announces the Press Mentorship Programme, to be conducted during the festival from the 12th to 19th Dec 2008 at Trivandrum, Kerala.
The objective of such a programme is to make available to aspiring film journalists the twin advantage of International guidance and an exposure to films and filmmakers at the festival. This will provide the material for tutorship and well as encouragement to work towards more serious and committed film journalism.
This year the mentors would include Chris Fujiwara (well known film critic and writer he has written for Film Comment, Film Quarterly, Cineaste, InterCommunication, Osian's Cinemaya, CinémAction, the Asahi Shimbun, The Boston Globe, The Village Voice, The Chicago Reader, Film International, Moving Image Source, Senses of Cinema, and other publications.), Ronald Bergan (who writes for The Guardian, The Independant and Green Cine), Pradip Biswas film critic with Indian Express, Financial Express etc.
Institutions from Asia were asked to nominate one or two interested and capable students to participate in the programme. Around 8 participants have been short-listed to participate in the programme. They will get a chance to report, review, interact and write features under the guidance of tutors on various activities that will be conducted during the festival. This would include films, seminars, workshops, meetings with guest, attending press conferences etc.
Under
the editorial guidance of the mentors the material will be
published on the IFFK website (www.keralafilm.com), the FIPRESCI
website (www.fipresci.org) and in the Daily Bulletin that
is published by the festival. The participants will be given
a certification of participation issued by the Festival and
FIPRESCI.
