Turtle family/Familia Tortuga ( 2006 )

Ruben Imaz
(Mexico/spanish/129 mins/35mm/2006)

The Tortuga family comprises two teenagers, an out-of-work father and an uncle with cerebral palsy. The movie traces a full day in their lives, eve of the first anniversary of the death of the mother whose absence continues to mark them all. The family bonds faced with a shared sentiment of the regretted absence, appear fragile. Uncle Manuel, a remarkable man, is determined to help his adolescent nephews and support his brother-in-law, an unemployed unionist. Motherís home is now a place where the family, amid lost dreams, is in danger of disintegration.
